Executive Director - Carl Weatherell

Carl Weatherell became the Executive Director and CEO of the Canada Mining Innovation Council (CMIC) in Ottawa, Canada on March 1, 2013. He has over 26 years' experience working at the interface of business, government and postsecondary institutions nationally and internationally. He has helped position organizations for success, including partnership development and the acquisition and delivery of over $300 million in funding from public and private sources.

Carl has established, managed or facilitated the development of strategy with over thirteen different consortia comprised of 200 businesses, 30 government organizations and at least 180 different academic institutions.  These consortia represent a broad range of science, technology and innovation subjects including photonics, e-commerce, internet security, astro-particle physics, emerging materials, micro-electronics, business ecosystems and of course mining.

Carl's involvement in the mining industry includes over fifteen years in research and research management at Natural Resources Canada including six consortia.

Carl obtained graduate and undergraduate degrees in chemistry from Carleton University and the University of Waterloo respectively.  He holds one patent and has publications in five different technical domains namely, hydrometallurgical engineering, organometallic chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental engineering and project management.
