**CMIC Signature Event 2013**

Just a 'heads up' to our members and friends that CMIC is planning its 2013 Signature Event for February 11-12, in Toronto. It will include a day of discussion and presentations on innovation in Canada's mining sector. Attendees of the 2012 Signature Event will remember the excellent presentations that were made then. Stay tuned for more information as things develop.
CMIC Executive Director Search
The Canada Mining Innovation Council is searching for a new executive director to replace Tom Hynes who will be retiring at the end of March 2013. Candidates who have a possible interest in the position should forward their names, coordinates and resumes to the CMIC Secretariat for further consideration.
The selected individual will be a good communicator, a strong leader, and have a degree (advanced degree preferred) in exploration, mining, geology, metallurgy or other mining-related disciplines. He or she should have extensive experience and background in R & D involving industry, academia and government, research funding mechanisms, and a strong knowledge of the challenges facing the Canadian mining industry. The ideal candidate will be functionally bilingual (English and French), and have a proven ability to execute and deliver exceptional results. Most importantly, interested candidates should have a passion for the mining industry, research, development and innovation; and a vision for ways to take the Canadian mining industry to new levels of performance. New Mining Funding Initiative - Call for Expressions of Interest Due July 27, 2012
Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) are working with industry and NSERC to fund $2 million in research and development (R&D) leading to transformative and implementable projects of benefit to Ontario's mining industry and its value chain.
Research projects in the "OCE-CEMI-NSERC Mining Manufacturing Program" will be in the area of Advanced Manufacturing with a demonstrated immediate upstream or downstream benefit to the mining sector, leading to novel, newly adapted or adopted processes, products, or services. The following focus areas will be supported in this initiative:
• Transformative productivity improvements for the mining and related sectors
• Management of water for the mining and related sectors
• Management of energy for the mining and related sectors
• Waste management for the mining and related sectors
This call is of relevance to R&D partners in universities, colleges, private sector companies (supply, service, and technology) and mining companies.

Call for Papers - ISARC 2013
30th International Symposium on Automation and Robotics in Construction, Mining and Petroleum (ISARC)
August 11 to 15, 2013, Montreal, Canada
Abstract Submission Deadline: October 1, 2012
The ISARC 2013 Program Committee cordially invites you to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations. You are invited to submit a one-page abstract (Max. 250 words). All authors whose abstracts are accepted (either oral or poster) will then submit a full paper of up to six pages for peer review.
ISARC 2013 will be held in parallel with the 23d World Mining Congress and Expo. Delegates will have the opportunity to participate in both events, and tap into a larger network of professionals and expertise.
A selection of papers presented at ISARC 2013 will be published in the CIM Journal.

Call for Papers - 23rd World Mining Congress
August 11 to 15, 2013, Montreal, Canada
Abstract Submission Deadline: October 1, 2012
The Canadian National Committee of the World Mining Congress is privileged to announce the 23d World Mining Congress & Expo.
The general theme of the congress is "Mapping the Future: Advances in Mining Engineering" allowing for a wide diversity of mining-related topics to be discussed in concurrent sessions. You are invited to submit a 2-page abstract (Max. 500 words) online.
Important notes
• All Papers, Posters and Presentations are to be in English only.
• Only presenters whose registration is completed by March 1, 2013 will see their papers published in the conference proceedings.
