| The Department of Natural Resources, through the Mines and Energy Branches and the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, delivers a variety of supports and services. Mining is one of Newfoundland and Labrador's largest and oldest industries, and a major contributor to the economy of our province, especially in rural areas. A total of sixteen mineral commodities are produced or mined in the province. Six metal mines currently produce iron ore, nickel, copper, zinc, cobalt, antimony and gold. Other operations mine slate, limestone and dolomite, amongst other commodities. | |
